The Weatherford Police Department (WPD) has shared edited video footage of a shootout from Christmas Eve between its officers and a stolen car suspect.

The bodycam, dashcam and surveillance footage – which was edited and produced by the department, then posted to their Facebook page on Dec. 30 – shows the moments where the suspect crashed the vehicle and shot at officers.

According to the Weatherford Police Department, its officers then returned fire, striking the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured in the incident, police said.

The chase began after officers were dispatched to York Avenue at 8:08 a.m. on Dec. 24 to a call about a reported stolen vehicle out of Georgia.

Police said that officers located the vehicle while responding to the scene, then engaged in a pursuit of the automobile.

During that chase, police said, the suspected stolen vehicle was involved in an accident near the intersection of Ric Williamson Memorial Highway and US-180.

Per the police statement, the driver exited the vehicle once it came to a rest following the accident. Then, a shooting exchange between the stolen vehicle suspect and officers ensued.

Police said the officer-involved shooting would be investigated by the Texas Rangers.

The edited video's release marks the first time since the day of the incident that the Weatherford Police Department has commented on the shooting.
