Body cam video released in Seaside police 'excessive force' investigation

Seaside Police have released the body cam footage from a December 2023 investigation of excessive force involving teenager Eric Casas.
In a statement, Seaside Police Chief Nick Borges said.
“We understand that the community has many questions and concerns, and we believe that providing access to this footage is a critical step toward maintaining public trust.”
The incident occurred on December 12, 2023, when police officers were responding to reports of an armed man at Cutino Park before they came across two young cousins, Eric and Jose Casas.
Police proceeded to detain the cousins for questioning. However, the situation took a turn when 15-year-old Eric Casas brought out his phone to record, and one of the officers pressed his knee to the young boy’s neck.
Video of this interaction had already gone viral in 2023, but now the newly released body cam footage shows this incident from Officer John Crivello’s point of view.
Crivello quickly became the center of an internal investigation regarding these accusations of excessive force.
