Guardian One helicopter helps Kent Police catch wanted robbery suspect
Kent Police arrested a man wanted for multiple counts of first-degree robbery after a pursuit assisted by the King County Sheriff’s Office Guardian One helicopter.
At about 12:20 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13 officers began a pursuit on the West Hill of Kent along South 277th Street eastbound into the valley. Officers discontinued the pursuit after King County Guardian One became available and had sight of the vehicle, according to Kent Police.
The vehicle traveled partway down South 277th Street in the opposite lanes.
Spike strips were successfully deployed and flattened most of the suspect vehicle’s tires. The 31-year-old Kent man then crashed into two vehicles at South 277th Street and West Valley Highway. He exited his car and reportedly attempted to carjack a vehicle that had stopped for the crash.
He failed to carjack that vehicle and fled on foot, but Kent officers caught him a short distance from the crash site. An officer fired a Taser to knock the man to the ground as he had kept running. No injuries were reported.
