Officers were driving west on Ravenwood Avenue on Friday night when glass shattered as a bullet flew through the police car and grazed the officer in the passenger seat.
“Shots fired! Shots fired! I think I’m hit! I’m hit,” the unidentified officer said.
Officers returned fire, but the suspects ultimately got away.
“Back out. I’m hit, I’m hit.”
“You’re hit?” the officer driving the cruiser asked.
“I’m hit. I’m hit in my head somewhere.”
Body camera footage shows a shattered passenger window as the officer checks on his partner.
“Get me somewhere to the f—ing hospital. Am I dying?”
“No,” the officer said.
While over 30 law enforcement officers from several agencies process the scene and use a drone to search for evidence, the Youngstown officer races his partner to the hospital.
“F—k dude. That s–t hurt like f–k. I can’t feel my f—ing arm, bro,” the injured officer said.
The officer is recovering, and the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, per departmental policy.
No one has been arrested.
Youngstown police say the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous and they’re asking for the public’s help identifying them.
The FBI, U.S. Marshalls and ATF are joining the city of Youngstown in offering a reward for information.
