Scottsdale detectives fatally shoots suspect, rescue hostage during intense shootout
The Scottsdale Police Department has released edited portions of body-worn camera footage capturing a deadly shootout last month that occurred as detectives were rescuing a kidnapping victim.
On Nov. 13, detectives with the agency's special assignments unit had tracked two suspects to a Mesa restaurant and made a plan to try and retrieve a kidnapping victim from the suspects' car.
Video footage released Monday by the police department shows the intense moments as officers moved in on the suspect and dodged bullets that were hitting their vehicles.
One of the detective's body-worn cameras recorded rounds getting fired into the windshield of the officer's car. Other officers can be seen pointing firearms at the suspects' vehicle and shouting out commands.
Another officer's camera recorded the moment when they were able to get a hold of the kidnapped hostage.
"Thank you guys, thank you so much," the victim can be heard saying in the footage.
Investigators reported finding guns and ammunition in the suspects' vehicle.
One of the suspects was killed during the shootout, and the other was taken into custody to face a charge of kidnapping.
