Impaired, novice driver leads police on chase from Oshawa to Kawartha Lakes
A man from Whitby is facing numerous charges after he tried to flee from police.
Officers say he was driving a silver Honda erratically in the area of Simcoe Street and Glovers Road in Oshawa around 10:20 p.m. Thursday.
They tried to pull him over at a red light, but he sped off, failing to stop.
Officers terminated the pursuit due to public safety concerns.
Air1 was in the area and located the Honda as it travelled eastbound from Highway 407.
Officers followed at a safe distance and were able to deploy stop sticks near Highway 35, causing the deflation of the tires.
The suspect vehicle stopped at Homestead Road and Pontypool Road in Kawartha Lakes and the man got out and ran.
He was arrested without incident.
Jordan Watkins, 35, is charged with impaired operation – alcohol/drugs; dangerous operation; fail to stop for police – pursuit; drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor and novice driver above zero B.A.C.
