A 44-year-old Kalamazoo Township man was arrested Wednesday after leading police on a six-minute vehicle chase that ended on train tracks, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

A citizen contacted KDPS around 8:17 a.m. stating that he saw someone driving an older Chevrolet Silverado that was towing his stolen trailer near N. Park Street and W. North Street, police said.

Video shows officers attempting to stop the vehicle, which had been reported stolen by the Portage Police Department, on Princeton Avenue near W. Paterson Street when the driver began to flee, crashing into a patrol vehicle before leaving the scene.

Authorities noticed that there were several freshly-cut catalytic converters in the bed of the truck.

The suspect lead officers on a six-minute pursuit before the truck got stuck on a rail-road track in a wooded area north of E. Mosel Avenue, authorities said.

The vehicle was smoking for about 20 seconds before police can be seen on video with guns drawn.

After several attempts to break free, the suspect exited the vehicle and surrendered to police.

During the arrest, officers found what they believe to be methamphetamine.

The suspect was taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail for charges of fleeing and eluding, possession of stolen property, and possession of methamphetamine.
