considering the fact the sewers designed by Joseph Bazelgette are still fit for purpose after 150 years of usage shows how good the workmanship was. These pics cover (mainly) the hidden river (the Fleet river) which was covered over some one hundred years ago as it flows from north London down under Fenchurch Street and on towards the Thames where it used to wmpty...apparently they don't smell as one would imagine...in fact, they often smell of perfumes as in the millions of washing machines and baths and showers which pour into them daily. There are many groups dedicated to exploring these tunnels - smh in bewilderment!
