Henderson police release bodycam footage of fatal knife-wielding encounter
The Henderson Police Department shared new bodycam footage in connection to an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead last week.
On Friday, Oct. 27, officers responded to a disturbance at the 2300 block of N. Green Valley Parkway near W. Warm Springs Road just before 9:30 p.m.
According to Dispatch, a man was inside a residence with a knife, vandalizing the space and cutting himself.
HPD responded and was confronted outside by the 26-year-old man holding the knife in a threatening manner towards officers.
Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by giving the suspect multiple verbal commands to drop the knife.
While officers were giving verbal commands to the suspect, officials said he aggressed a nearby citizen. Officers were later successful in regaining the suspect's attention towards them and away from the citizen.
Police said the suspect continued to aggress officers while still refusing to drop the knife and yelling for officers to shoot him.
Officers attempted to tase the suspect. However, the taser was ineffective. According to HPD, officers then discharged their weapons, striking the suspect.
Officers administered first aid until paramedics arrived on the scene. The suspect was then transported to a local area hospital, where he died from his injuries.
No officers were injured in this incident.
