A 3-year-old child from the township of Alto is safe after getting lost for approximately two hours in rural Fond du Lac County on Aug. 25.
According to Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office, the child's parent called 911 at about 8:49 p.m., believing the child had walked into the standing cornfield behind the house. He was last seen at about 7:30 p.m. and while the household had thoroughly searched all of the barns and buildings on the property, the field had more than 100 acres of standing corn.
Alto Fire Department personnel searched the cornfield, with assistance from the sheriff's office drone team and a drone operator from the city of Fond du Lac Police Department.
The drone was equipped with thermal cameras, and at about 9:30 p.m., the camera located a heat spot in the field. The operator directed a deputy and fire personnel to the location, where they found the child unharmed at 9:46 p.m.
He was approximately half a mile away from home.
